My Mother’s First Year in the Nursing Home
and other Funny Stories

(Lovingly drawn by her exhausted daughter)

Life Is Sweet, Bitter Sweet

Many people have their own personal experience taking care of aging family members. Through a series of brightly colored illustrated panels, the often funny, sometimes sad and always poignant story of just such a family is told.

These drawings express the personal, yet universal experience of a family touched by Alzheimer's. Iudita Robiscek Harlan has captured scenes of both sweetness and sorrow. The artist has a unique ability to render the light side of our darkest moments.

About The Artist

Iudita Robiscek Harlan has had a series of one woman shows in Cleveland and surrounding areas. In her past shows, including “Tracing Home” and “Children of the Holocaust”, the artist explored the personal themes of being an immigrant and the child of holocaust survivors thru her paintings and sculptures. Her last show at the Oakland Center for the Arts in Youngstown, by invitation, was entitled Children of the Holocaust and was adjunct to a play about Anne Frank.

The last few years the artist has been dealing with the aging process of her parents and the birth of her twin grandbabies. In the midst of all this living she has been sculpting and illustrating this phase of her families’ odyssey.
